A sketch can often say as much if not more than a detailed study. It is a quick assessment of form and personality. Cats are hard to draw, they rarely keep still for long, except when asleep – and a sleeping cat usually has its face hidden under a pile of fur!

Alan Dedman sketches cats at shows, this is no mean feat, as show pussies are often nervous. Nine out of ten cats would agree! Alan will be at this year's GCCF Supreme Show at the NEC in Birmingham.This is a sketch of a kitten called Thomas, a ginger tom.
